Notes From Abroad: Athens, Day 1
It's now over a month since we were in Greece, and my faulty memory blurs the days together. On our first day, we let the kids sleep in as late as they wanted. G wasn't feeling well: we'd had a few minor illnesses while in Nafplio, and now it was G's turn to be poorly. He was eager to see Athens, so he mustered his strength for some...shopping. Apparently our place in the Plaka was a stone's throw from Fr. G's favorite vestment shop, so we waited for a while as he looked through the merchandise and consulted with the woman in the shop. Deciding that his shopping would take longer than his impatient family could wait, Fr G elected to return without us.
We then made our way to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, which was beautiful! At this point, G was starting to feel worse, so we stopped for lunch. He tried to rally for some book browsing at a shop a few minutes away, but after our walk there he just wanted to go back to bed. He and I returned to the apartment, and that was it for the two of us for the day!
Fr G, T and M did some additional book browsing (and buying), and, in the evening, he took them on a walk around the Acropolis for their first views of it.
